What is a typical day for you like at Concentric?
A typical day for me as a GSOC (Global Security Operations Center) Specialist is usually considered atypical to most. My day with the GSOC starts when everyone else’s is wrapping up. My partner and I burn the midnight oil, taking on the night watch picking up where the day shift has left off. After 12 hours when other’s days are starting, I’m winding down for the ‘night.’ The GSOC is the always-ready nerve center for operations at Concentric. Our unique position allows us to touch on most aspects of the company, supporting intelligence gathering, field operations, investigations, and more. Our varied workload always keeps our days (and nights) interesting, and the unpredictable demands of our work keep us on our toes. During on and off-hours, we are capable of responding to any need or request that might come our way. So, every day, working with this close-knit team, is a little bit different.
How long have you been at Concentric and what part of your job do you find most fulfilling?
I have been with Concentric for a little over a year now. One of the most fulfilling aspects of my job is working along-side and learning from the incredibly talented and intelligent individuals on our teams. There is nothing they can’t achieve when they put their minds together, it is an incredible thing to behold. The work we do to support NGOs and philanthropy is particularly rewarding.
What is your educational and professional background before joining Concentric?
Before Concentric I spent the last fifteen years traveling, living, and working in various parts of Southeast Asia, China, and the US. I worked as a Remote Medic and climbing/mountaineering guide, coordinating expeditions in and outside the U.S. for many of those years. After relocating to Seattle, I had the privilege to coordinate medical training courses all over the world for public and private clients. In particular, working closely with the Office of Special Warfare designing and delivering specialized Prolonged Field Care courses for many of their operators. I furthered my studies and practice of emergency medicine through paramedic school, designed and taught Advanced Life Support curriculums, and helped start a non-profit for educating clinicians in Africa on a new field-stable poly-valiant anti-venom. After years in the field, now with Concentric, I am drawing on all those experiences and continuing still to further my skill set.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Unsurprisingly, I love traveling and climbing. And eating food while traveling and after climbing. Other activities near and dear include fly fishing, surfing, leatherworking, cooking, and teaching my little nieces how cool the world can be.
What are you most looking forward to over the next year?
I am looking forward to enjoying live music again. The social dancing and music scenes in Seattle are amazing and have been dearly missed. Oh, and dinner parties! I love cooking for a big party. Did I mention travel? Definitely travel.
