What is a typical day for you like at Concentric?
Because our clients’ requirements and requests vary so much, every day presents new challenges and assignments, and I like that aspect of this position. Daily, I execute the responsibilities necessary to meet the security needs of our Northern California clients. They include identifying and assembling teams tailored to the clients’ requests which could range from accompanying hikers, transporting priceless art or guarding jewelry, to keeping the clients’ residences and corporate spaces safe. I also plan, schedule and coordinate regular as well as new security or protection assignments and ensure that the assignments for the day proceed properly. Often, I receive new client referrals so I regularly engage with prospective clients and field inquiries. In addition, I coordinate and conduct assigned investigations. Other tasks include scheduling and coordinating agents and securing and distributing necessary equipment they need such as first aid kits, AEDs, phones or laptops, and frequently checking in with the agents and clients. Approving invoices and entering and approving assignment expenses are part of my day as well.
How long have you been at Concentric and what part of your job do you find most fulfilling?
I have been working for Concentric for 13 years. The most fulfilling part of the job is when a client thanks the team after a protection assignment or when an investigation goes well and reveals important information. The most rewarding part is when a current or past client refers us to their friends and business associates.
What is your educational and professional background before joining Concentric?
After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of San Francisco and a California State Teaching Credential, I was in law enforcement for 38 years. Two years were with the University of San Francisco Department of Public Safety and 36 years were with the San Francisco Police Department. While there, I spent 13 years in the patrol division and, after being promoted to Inspector, 23 years in the investigations bureau. As an inspector, I investigated all serious felonies including robbery, threats, and aggravated assaults and specialized in arson and explosions. I’ve completed certificated training in a number of disciplines including numerous special investigative areas, arson and explosion investigations, and traffic collision investigations and reconstruction. While serving in the bureau, I was assigned to the protection details of U.S. presidents and other heads of state and cabinet-level U.S. officials, working closely with the U.S. Secret Service. During my time in the department, I also taught at the San Francisco Policy Academy. I continue to teach at the academy as well as the California State POST Institute of Criminal Investigation. Additionally, I serve as a Threat Liaison Officer and Infrastructure Liaison Officer through the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center (NCRIC/INFRAGUARD) which allows me to keep my skills and knowledge current.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I enjoy attending events, watching movies, and going for walks and exploring different areas of San Francisco with my wife. My hobbies include gardening and working on home projects.
What are you most looking forward to over the next year?
I look forward to building and expanding the company’s client base in Northern California and ensuring that we’re known in the region for excellence in all areas of security. On a personal note, I look forward to spending more time with my granddaughter (who lives in Seattle) and having adventures with her here in San Francisco.
