Travel insurance is generally designed to provide financial protection against routine travel issues, such as trip cancellation and local medical bills. Travel insurance requires a report from a medical professional at a receiving facility in-country in order to activate cover and support and provides cover on a reimbursement basis where a client pays up front for medical expenses and reclaims from the travel insurer on return.
Unlike Travel insurance, GEAR is a point-of-incident membership response program that has been specifically designed to help the traveler in extraordinary situations through the deployment of medical and/or and security assets directly to the scene, ensuring rapid stabilization and continuity of care from point of incident to admission into a receiving facility without incurring any out of pocket expenses. GEAR allows us to act pre-emptively, rapidly and effectively where needed in response to any medical or security related threats to members. We will arrange, monitor, supervise and pay for services as noted under the relevant GEAR security and medical table of benefits during a member’s period of travel.

Your calls are routed to our 24/7 Global Response Center where you will be treated by one of our Response Coordinators who will then guide you through the incident and provide the required assistance.

The app requires internet access/roaming data to connect to the Global Response Center (GRC). You are also able to connect with the GRC via SMS as well.

Yes, you can receive alerts wherever you are at all times whether at home or abroad. All alerts are sent as push notifications to the app directly on your smartphone based on your personal privacy settings within the app. When you are traveling abroad you will receive all high-risk alerts via SMS in addition to the push notification, to ensure you are informed even when you might not be connected to the internet.

In addition to a panic button and access to our Global Response team, you will receive location-based alerts. GEAR Tech also provides access to country specific advice, including recommended vaccinations, security and medical information, cultural dos and don’ts, language, climate, visa and passport requirements, travel and transportation advice, currency converter, public holidays and festivals.
