Weekend Protest Alert: D.C. and Beyond
This upcoming weekend, Washington D.C. is anticipated to experience significant protest activity due to multiple large-scale demonstrations. Protests are expected to coincide with President Trump’s military parade commemorating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and Trump’s 79th birthday on Saturday, June 14. The official parade will begin at 6:30PM, starting at Constitution Avenue NW and 23rd Street, but festivities on the National Mall will take place throughout the day on Saturday.
The parade will feature 6,700+ soldiers in historical uniforms, marching alongside heavy military vehicles, including tanks and other artillery.
During the parade, there will be 50 aircraft flyovers and static displays of rocket launchers and precision-guided missiles.
The festivities will conclude with a concert and fireworks commencing around 9:45PM ET.
On June 10, President Trump publicly warned any protestors at the event would be “met with heavy force,” describing the parade as a powerful display of U.S. military strength. The U.S. Army supports peaceful protest, but announced it will not engage in crowd control. The Secret Service and local law enforcement are monitoring nine planned protest actions in D.C., but do not currently anticipate violence. Key groups expected to mobilize include:
“Refuse Fascism”
Marching from Logan Circle to the White House beginning at 1:00PM.
“National Protest Against Trump and the War Machine”
Gathering up to 20,000 demonstrators at Meridian Hill Park (around 1.5 miles north of the White House).
“Veterans Demand Benefits Not Bullsh*t”
Protesting federal parade spending; location undisclosed.
“No Kings” Coalition
No formal D.C. rally planned to take attention away from President Trump, but activists are expected to protest independently.
“No Kings” also plans to hold more than 1,700 demonstrations worldwide on Saturday, June 14. Other cities to watch include:
Philadelphia: Flagship “No Kings” protest on Saturday at LOVE Park.
New York City: Potential solidarity demonstrations
“No Kings” protest will take place at Bryant Park on 5th Avenue & East 41st Street.
Los Angeles: Ongoing immigration protests have drawn 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines.
